What is the Council Against Abuse of Older Persons (CAAOP)?

The Council is a volunteer group of individuals and agencies committed to addressing the issue of abuse against older persons in the Hamilton community.  

The Goal is:

to increase our community's ability to recognize and respond to abuse of older persons.

The Council has representation from  21community organizations and  meets monthly on the last Thursday of the month 9 times per year. There are many opportunities to become involved on the Council. Depending on your interest you may want to focus on Multi-Cultural Issues, Education, Communication or as a member at large. 

The Council is committed to:

  • Increase public awareness through education
  • Support our community's ability to address the issue of abuse of older persons
  • Promote opportunities for research, and facilitate access to resources
  • Assist in the training for prevention, detection and intervention
  • Provide leadership and seek new partnerships
  • Advocate for public policy that protects the rights of older persons in our diverse communities.
