Membership

Any interested person in Hamilton can join the Council. There are no fees. We are a non-partisan, not-for-profit group. You can be associated with an agency but individuals, especially seniors, are encouraged to attend and become involved to lend a voice in supporting the end of abuse of older adults.

Membership in CAAOP shall be made up of three classes:

  • Full Member: The role of a full member is to make a regular commitment to the work of CAAOP through attendance of at least 50% of the monthly meetings in the past year and active involvement on ad hoc and sub committees. A full member is entitled to vote on CAAOP matters and is entitled to receive minutes
  • Associate Member: The role of an associate member is to be available for consultation on special projects. An associate member is committed to the mission statement of CAAOP, is not entitled to vote on CAAOP matters and is entitled to receive minutes.  They may attend meetings as they are able.
  • Corporate Member: The role of a corporate member is to partner with CAAOP through offering financial support to the work of CAAOP. A corporate member is not entitled to vote on CAAOP matters and is entitled to receive minute. 

Executive Committee Positions and Responsibilities

Chairperson

  • Spokesperson for the Council
  • Conducts Executive and General meetings
  • Sets agenda for Executive and General meetings
  • Responsible for all correspondence conducted on behalf of the Council
  • Provides an annual report on activities to the Council members.

Past Chairperson

  • Acts as an advisor to the Chair and Executive committee
  • Acts as Chair of the Nominations Committee

Vice Chairperson

  • Assumes the responsibility of the Chairperson in his/her absence
  • Sees to the maintenance of the Council's business records

Secretary

  • Prepares Notice of Meeting
  • Records attendance and minutes of meetings
  • Sends minutes to Chairperson for approval before distribution
  • Provides extra copies of agenda and minutes at meetings
  • Maintains current membership list

Treasurer

  • Responsible for collecting and delivering monies for banking purposes
  • Responsible for recording financial transactions and reporting the results to Council members
  • Responsible for the preparation of fiscal statement for audit purposes
  • Responsible for a current financial report for the Annual General Meeting
